Both Restaurant Madame Butterfly on the top floor and Bar Cocoon on the ground floor offer a unique gallery cum- wining and dining concept. Spanning a total floor space of 22,000 sq ft, the Forbidden City is one of the largest galleries in South-East Asia, showcasing a formidable collection of Chinese paintings, artifacts and antiques.

Venue Decor

Bar CoCoon offers a cozy venue for lounging, socializing and clubbing with massive opium beds enveloped by silk lanterns and drapery providing a sensuous charm to its relaxing ambience.

Like the sanctuary of a cocoon, one is embraced in an ambience of Eastern sensuality. Yet, behind the façade of antiquity, one notices the modernity that befits a bar in one of the technological capitals of the world. The light fragrance of jasmine incense fills the air as you are transported to a world of hypnotic charms and titillating senses.

Ice Bar

New Zealand's super premium 42 Below Vodka, has teamed up with the Forbidden City to develop Singapore's first authentic Ice Bar. With an extreme conditioned, temperature-controlled unit, the bar boasts running temperatures fo -15 degrees celsius, making it Singapore's largest and coldest ice bar.

The hand-sculpted bar in is hosted inside a 16 x 12 foot structure which is reinforced with triple-glazed, safety flass, specially designed to withstand extreme conditions. The flass is filled with a unique nitricoxide system designed to minimize condensation and contain temperatures and an ambience that suits an ice bar - traditionall serving only vodka and running at extreme temperates making it impossible to serve beverages like beer and wine.

The frozen interior, including tables, bartop and vodka glasses, is constructed entirely from ice and the floor is packed tight with freshly harvested snow. Guests are provided with specially designed fur jackets and gloves on arrival and enter through an air-locked doorway to prevent cold air escaping.

As drinking at extreme temperatures is different from drinking at room temperature, guest are only allowed to remain for a limited period of time and are closely monitored by trained bar staff at all times. Guests can expect drinks specially designed for such extreme low temperatures by 42 Below's full time drinks mixologists - barmen who stand around all day coming up with new drink combinations.
